Neon Neon is a collaborative project from producer Boom Bip and Gruff Rhys, who is best known as the frontman for rock band Super Furry Animals. Their album "Stainless Style" is loosely based on the life of John De Lorean and was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize.

Boom Bipと Super Furry AnimalsのフロントマンGruff Rhysから成るNeon Neon。アルバム"Stainless Style"は２００８年のMercury Music Prizeにもノミネートされました。

When I first heard the album, I thought it was a bit naff and to a certain extent it is a bit dodgy in places, the weird rap tracks with people like Yo! Majesty don't really appeal to me. But aside from a few shakey moments it's actually a darn good album which has grown on me over the last few months. Nostalgic to the eighties but in a positively honest & fresh way, like Van She's "Kelly" was. Gruff's vocals may annoy some, but try and not let that distract you from a very good listen. Apparently there won't be anymore Neon Neon records so enjoy them while you can. It's out on Lex Records, check some Boom Bip while you at it too.

初めて聞いた時はちょっとパッとしないし、ラップが入ってたりしてちょっとコレは...って思ったりもしましたが結果的には結構好きなアルバムになってしまいました。ノスタルジックで８０年代の香りもかなり強いですが新鮮でVan Sheの"Kelly"を聞いた時の感じと近い印象を受けました。ボーカルは癖があるので生理的に受け付けない人もいると思いますが曲に集中するとなんか良いかもって思うかもしれませんよ。今後活動は内容なので是非ともチェックしてみては。Lex Recordsからのリリースです。Boom Bip もチェックしてみると良いかも。
